FAQs (frequently asked questions)

Here you will find questions and answers that have come up about our project, so if you have questions you might check here first. (someone else may have them, too.)

I have never done my own living quarters before but I can operate a power drill and a saw, is this something I could do?
Most certainly, I have never done anything like this before, either, and I wish there had been a video like this when I got started. We kept the projects simple so anyone would be able to do it.The video does all the homework for you and divides this task into sections with a list of tools used.

My trailer is aluminum and has a larger space to work with, will this video help me?
Although our trailer is steel with smaller living quarters, I do give tips on where to get ideas for other floor plans and because yours is aluminum doesn't matter, the principles are the same. Actually it will be easier when it comes to doing your framing.

Did you add plumbing in your trailer?
At first I had planned to add a shower/toilet combo and then we decided for our purposes of overnight and weekend trips we wanted the space to stay versatile so if we decided later to add a permanent toilet and shower we could. For now, we built a separate bathroom with a porta-potti and had a creative idea for a portable shower. We wanted to keep the project simple and inexpensive but have all the modern conveniences. Storage and seating were our main focus in our plans. If you decide to put in plumbing, the floor plan is basically set up for it already.

I have a very small space, would this video give me some ideas?
Yes, it will. We give some creative ideas for "convertible furniture" or pieces with double purposes. Plus we show you how to build your own inexpensive cabinets which is ideal in a small space.

Do you show how to install electrical and plumbing?
We show you how we prepared for having it wired by laying it out on a peice of paper where our outlets and light switches would be. We had an electritian install the 110, we show what he did and explain why. We also show you all the supplies needed and cost involved. As far as our plumbing goes we built a seperate room for our bathroom but decided for our short trips we didn't want the extra expense of the holding tanks, heater and toilet/shower. Instead we purchased a porta-potti and I have a
portable shower we use.
